Canada helps fund small organic meat plant in Quebec

The Canadian government said it awarded $100,000 in funding to Les Viandes Biologiques de Charlevoix to finance equipment for a new organic meat processing facility in Quebec.

The funding will enable the company to acquire equipment needed to manufacture such value-added products as delicatessen meats and prepared foods, as well as to cover the costs of introducing these products to market.

The firm's new processing facility is the result of more than $1.7 million in total investment and is expected to create 15 new jobs.

Canada Economic Development Minister Jean-Pierre Blackburn said in a news release that Les Viandes Biologiques de Charlevoix is positioning itself at the forefront of the organic meat processing sector in Quebec and will serve as an example to others interested in developing the region's organic farming sector, most notably in the areas of livestock production and grain growing.
