After workers at Maple Leaf Foods' hog cutting and killing plant on Warman Road in Winnipeg, Manitoba, rejected the company's request to reopen their collective agreement, the processor may shutter the facility. Employees refused to reopen their contract or authorize the union to negotiate restructuring terms. A Maple Leaf spokesman said work done at the Warman Road plant would be transferred to Brandon, Manitoba, by 2009, but the company has not yet decided what exactly to do with the Warman Road facility. In July, Maple Leaf announced plans to close its primary pork processing plant on Marion Street in Winnipeg.
