Trait "measurements"
I've been reading more and more lately about trait measurements in cattle. I do ranch cattle, but as a commercial producer have never found the relevance in epd's, the only trait measurement that I find useful is carcass data. Now they're talking about measuring economically relevant traits, which in theory sounds great, but I just don't see how they are going to accurately measure such traits when cattle ranching and ranchers cause so many variables to come into play...much the same as epd measurements. Maybe I just don't know enough about it, but researching and developing economically relevant traits sure seems like its just another high paying job to another researcher that won't give us any sort of result to make US any more money.

Very interesting post, swrancher. Were you at the BIF conference?
