AGRICULTURE It's a definite negative for the agriculture sector, Paradise Valley grain farmer Bill Dobson says. It puts pressure on grain and cattle prices, although it does make equipment and other products from the U.S. less expensive. Farmers prefer that the dollar remains stable rather than going through frequent fluctuations, then everything eventually just about balances out, Dobson says.

How much do you anticipate the dollar will affect calf prices this fall?
I expect that it will affect calf prices quite a lot. Last week you could see the drop from mid week to the end of the week when the dollar jumped up to par. Between the dollar and high grain prices I expect that smaller calves will be under a lot of pressure. Bigger calves that can go straight into the feedlot and be finished in a faifly short tmie I think will sell fairly well.
